An Afternoon at Buckner-Ragsdale

Our garden-inspired tablescape at The Buckner-Ragsdale Event Center this weekend was such fun to dream up and create.

Designing with locally grown flowers to share with strangers…well, sometimes that can feel a bit daunting! With no client and no set color palette, I first felt fickle on choosing something that coordinated with our vintage ivy textile I scored on Etsy.

Ultimately our garden showed me the way, starting with lovely stems of verbascum we grew from seed last spring. Native phlox, hellebore, Korean lilac, and surprisingly purple dead nettle became important instruments in this floral symphony!

Without a plethora of tulips, luck was on our side with our very first bearded iris blooming just in time. White poppies with their electric yellow pollen and squiggly stems added a delightfully whimsical flair (from Green’s Garden Center). Additionally I purchased calla lily plants from Plants Plus to cut off.

Viburnum, columbine, fritillaria, strawberry, fringe tree are more ingredients we harvested from our garden—what can I say? I’m a bit of a flower maximalist!

I hand-painted our signage to pair with a vintage iron stand from Brick Street Gallery. I nestled bud vases and pots of variegated ivy around our custom porcelain compotes made by Flowers in Clay. Our vintage brass candle goods added a level of romance to the table, even with the use of flameless tapers.

One of the fun things about being a vendor at this wedding show was creating a custom advertisement for the large tv screens they have at the venue. I designed a collage of favorite images that speak to our garden-inspired style.
